Petrophysics Services

Syntillica offers a wide selection of services.

Petrophysics gets to the core of well analysis and is the study of the physical and chemical properties of rocks and the fluids they contain.

Fundamental to the creation of static models and accurate field appraisal are conventional logs such as density, acoustic, resistivity and neutron.   Interpretation (and integration) of these logs are well within the expertise of Syntillica's Petrophysicists.

Logs are used for picking formation tops, correlating saturation height functions (for fluid volumes) and measurement of porosity (density, acoustic & neutron log), fluid (resistivity log) and permeability (commonly from porosity-permeability relationships).  In certain areas, such as within shale-rich formations direct measurement of physical/chemical parameters is not possible so indications from multiple logs need to be integrated by experienced professionals for meaningful analysis.

Other specialist services offered such as thin bed analysis - where the resolution of instruments do not match the spatial frequency of the formations and analysis is subtle even for experienced practitioners.   NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) is an unconventional log because it only responds to hydrogen nuclei in formation fluids (oil. gas, water), not both formation and fluids like conventional logs.  NMR can be used to estimate porosity, permeability, rock composition, type/quantity of hydrocarbons and their producibility.  Of ongoing importance is Cement Bond analysis to ensure the formation is sealed where necessary and avoid any behind the pipe fluid flows which can be dangerous if re-entering the well bore away from casing.

There isn't enough time to list everything that we do so if you can't find what you are looking for from the Services menu please contact the team and we'll be happy to respond to your request.
